August, 2010: Airport authorities at Chandigrh Airport have taken a precautionary measure against anti-social elements that may try to disturb India’s Independence Day celebrations by implementing a policy prohibiting visitors from entering the airport from Aug 6 to 20.
The measure does not apply to ticketed passengers and although anti-social elements may try to carry out violence as passengers, high security checks are likely to identify any problems before they have a chance to begin.
Airport authorities are still issuing direct authorization so that particular visitors can enter the airport. However, this would not include most of the regular visitors. Those planning to drop off guests at the airport should be prepared for restricted access that will not allow them to enter the airport.
