Jan 30, 2010: Today marked the beginning of installation work for a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Chandigarh Airport. The ILS, which guides aircraft for precise approach and landing, became inoperable a few months ago and halted aircraft operations.

The delay in replacing the faulty system was due in part to the need to gain required permission from the Air Force. Much to the relief of air passengers, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has received permission and work on the ILS installation is moving forward.
