Amritsar to London Flights Starting Soon

Chandigarh, Sep 8, 2011:On October 14, British Midland International (BMI), the second largest airline operating out of London's Heathrow airport, will start flights from Amritsar. An airline official made the announcement Thursday, saying that the airline is seeking to facilitate more convenient travel options between Punjab and London.

BMI sales manager Vikas Mathur said that the flights will operate thrice-weekly and will take 12 hours to reach London from Amritsar, the Sikh holy city and international tourist destination.

The flights will include a stop in the Kazakhstani city of Almaty, but passengers will not be required to change planes.

Mathur said that all inclusive economy class fare between the two cities will start from Rs.38,091.

Mathur added that his company was pleased to offer the most convenient and shortest route for passengers wishing to travel between Amritsar and London. He said that demand for the flight is expected to be high, since Punjab and the UK have long-standing business and social relations.

Thousands of Non-Resident Indians (NRI) from Punjab now live in Britain. Many more live in European countries, Canada and the United States. This has provoked the interest of international airlines wanting to capture Amritsar’s NRI market by offering flights from Amritsar's Guru Ram Das international airport.
