Farmers Protest Against Punjab Government

December 16, 2011: The main gate of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority office was completely blocked. Every voice was demanding something. They were demanding for full payment against their own lands which were acquired for the development of an international airport which is yet to be constructed at Mohali. They were none other but farmers from the very village where, in the vicinity the development will take place.
According to the farmers the state government has acquired the area of approximately 420 acres against the price of 1.5 crore per acre but yet the payment is not made completely.
The district MLA, Balbir Sidhu, along with the officials of the GMADA intervened in the situation in order to resolve the grievance. After the intervention of the district MLA the farmers postponed their protest till next Wednesday. In addition to that they also expressed their hostile intentions that if the full payment will not made after a short time they will again agitate against GMADA and Punjab government.
