Flights Starting to Bangalore and Hyderabad from Chandigarh Airport

Sept 28, 2010 : IT professionals are about to find it much easier to travel to Chandigarh: Private air carrier Jet Airways has begun a flight from Bangalore to Chandigarh and from Chandigarh to Hyderabad, connecting with Delhi each way. Airlines usually launch new flights like this one during October and March.

The flight, which starts from October 1, takes off from Bangalore and lands in Chandigarh after a stop at Delhi. After this, the plane departs Chandigarh for Hyderabad, again stopping at Delhi midway. According to authorities, the flight’s departure time from Bengaluru International Airport will be 12.50 pm and arrival time at Chandigarh domestic airport will be 4.55 pm. Departure for Hyderabad will be at 5.25 pm and arrival there will be at 9 pm. The scheduled stops at Delhi airport are 45 minutes long.

According to sources, the future of the flight depends upon passenger feedback; a Chandigarh-Bangalore-Chandigarh flight could be permanently established. However, a decision regarding whether or not the same flight would continue to include Hyderabad will be taken later.

According to a company representative, Jet Airways’ decision to connect Bangalore and Chandigarh was taken because special IT zones in both cities are likely to provide additional potential of air passengers. The representative added that although initially the new flight’s Bangalore-Chandigarh-Hyderabad circuit is on a trial basis, a special flight between Chandigarh and Bangalore could also be started.

Currently Chandigarh is connected by 11 regular flights to destinations across India. These include cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu and Srinagar. Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Go Air are the national airlines currently operating form Chandigarh’s domestic airport. The total number of flights handled by the Chandigarh airport is about 3,200 and these serve 2.5 lakh passengers every year. This makes the airport a vital destination for tourists.

This airport is controlled by Air Force. A new domestic terminal building is under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
