June 20, 2014 ( AirportChandigarh.com): The Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Pusapati confirmed to Mr. Badal, CM Punjab in New Delhi that clearance is being given to flights from Chandigarh to Dubai and Bangkok. Indigo, Spicejet and UAE Airlines now have the permission to operate international flights to these destinations from Chandigarh Airport. During the meeting, Mr. Badal also brought up his concern about flights resumption from other airports in Punjab: Sahnewal, Bathinda and Pathankot. He also requested civil flights operations from the Air Force stations at Adampur and Halwara.A couple of days ago, North American Punjabi Association wrote to PM, Mr. Modi, Mr. Pusapati and Mr. Badal urging them to resume the direct flight from Amritsar to San Francisco. NAPA also requested to start international flights from Mohali/Chandigarh as soon as possible. NRIs from Punjab have to travel several hours in order to catch a flight from Delhi airport. This causes inconvenience other than wasting time. Going in and out of Delhi itself is a troublesome task.
