L&T to Complete International Airport Terminal by the Deadline

July 15, 2014 (AirportChandigarh.com): The upcoming international airport at Mohali is currently under construction by Larsen & Toubro. The deadline given to the company is February 2015. So far they have already completed 60% of the construction work and according to media sources, AAI says that the rest of the work will be completed within the next eight months.

It is expected that by March 2015, the international airport will be ready and by June 2015 the flights will commence. The airport will be sharing the runway with Chandigarh airport. The runway is currently being upgraded and the airport remains closed every 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoons.

The international airport terminal will have two floors – one for departure and the other one for arrival of flights. The vehicles will reach the departure on the upper floor via an elevated road whereas a separate road is being constructed which will take the vehicles to the arrival gate. The elevated road has been 80% completed.

The terminal will be able to accommodate 600 vehicles in the automated parking. High mast lights have already been installed and 70% of the concrete flooring work has been completed while the rest is expected to be completed by February next year.GMADA is working on building airport expressway which will connect Chandigarh-Patiala road and Mohali-Kharar road to the new airport. So far only a road connecting the airport and the expressway has been constructed while the rest of the road construction will be completed by the time the international airport is ready to function by next year.
