Frustration is at peak with people waiting for Chandigarh Airport to start international flights. Announcement after announcement have been made for the last few years that international flights are starting soon, and yet no international flights are operational.
Most recently, Punjab's Dy CM, Sukbhir Singh Badal mentioned in an interview with NDTV that Mohali international airport will be operational in a couple of months. We don't really know if it will happen, but let's hope so. Maybe he meant international flights from Chandigarh Airport will be operational because the site for Mohali international airport only has open fields used for cattle grazing.
If Congress comes into power next month in Punjab, nobody really knows if they will take up the matter from where it was left off. Only time will tell. It is up to the people who really want the international flights to make sure that their voices are heard. Posting comments on our website is one way of doing it. Another is to call or email the political parties in power.
Fog has finally cleared up. In January, a lot of morning flights got cancelled due to foggy weather. The ILS system that was tested for the first time after it was changed at the airport didn't really work that well. It is responsible for flight landings in poor visibility.
Taxi operators charged doubled the money than the normal fare to drive people to Delhi who couldn't catch the flights. The moral is arrange alternative transportation in advance when planning to travel by air in winters.
